This blog post will be a rather short one, as today was spent almost entirely flying home. There wasn’t much of a view from the plane as it was night-time and cloudy, but the pilot cheerily assured us that the weather in London was good today, cloudy and 5 degrees above freezing. It was going to be a big shock to the system coming from balmy Santiago.
However, it was definitely going to be more of a shock for the Brazilian couple sat next to me on the flight who were very chatty and excited for their first trip outside of Brazil. They came from a smaller agricultural area in Brazil and were keen to learn and improve their English (their reason for the visit was an English language course) so were enjoying having a real English person to practice on. I do wonder how they coped, as we were coming back to England in the winter and they had apparently never experienced temperatures below 10 degrees before, going to be a big shock for them!
When I got off the plane I was warmly greeted by my girlfriend, before making the short train journey back to Cambridge and home sweet home.
This will likely be my final entry into this blog, I hope that you have enjoyed reading it and have maybe even learned a bit about Antarctic science along the way. I must give a huge thank you to my sister for helping format and upload these blog posts, and to everyone reading this, thank you so much for sticking with it and for all of your helpful and supportive messages throughout the cruise!
