33 - Transit to Orkney Passage

Hi Everyone,

I’ll be honest, with all the chaos and business that is about to unfold over the next few days, I am writing this blog post very late, so it will be short and sweet.

It was quite a chill day today really, as we transited up from the M2 and M3 moorings towards Orkney Passage, where work will be very busy. But as most of the instruments we will be deploying are still on the moorings we will be picking up, there are only a smaller number that we can be working to prepare and set up ready to deploy.

We are currently in the Weddell sea, which is a truly Antarctic sea, sailed across by the likes of Shackleton and Scott. As if to justify this, it has been much more icy, with small regions of brash ice and bergy bits floating by periodically. A highlight for me was when one of the icebergs even had some penguins sitting on it and chilling. They were at a bit of a distance but we got some decent photos with a long lens!

Finally, there have been some rumours about making a cruise music video, which there has been a lot of pressure for me to get involved in. We are hoping to choose a song and start collecting footage soon. Depending on how it goes, there may be more updates soon……
